What it is

A shelf of dice games for two

Dice Duo is a collection, not one game in five costumes. Each board has its own rule and its own kind of tension: a land grab, a tug of war, two races and a climb.

What they share is one die, two players, and rules short enough to explain while the other person is still sitting down.

The five games

Three steps each. That is the whole rulebook.

Every game here is explained the way the app explains it: three short steps and one way to win. The first time you open a game, a short practice round shows you how it plays, and you can skip it.

Grid War on a phone: lines between dots, boxes marked with an X, and the green Roll button.

Connect. Claim. Win.

Grid War

A cream board of dots, two colors of lines, and a board size you pick: Quick, Classic or Long. The die decides how many lines you draw. Where you draw them is up to you.

  1. Roll for lines

The die shows how many lines you draw this turn.

  2. Join the dots

Tap between two dots to draw a line. Every line of your roll must be used.

  3. Close a box, claim it

Draw the fourth side of a box and it is marked in your color.

How you win: Most boxes wins. Quick, Classic and Long boards have 9, 25 and 35 boxes. That is always an odd number, so a match never ends level.

DiceBack on a phone: a tray split diagonally with red and yellow tokens on both sides.

Send them back

DiceBack

The game that started it all. A tray split corner to corner, your tokens on one side, theirs on the other, and every roll pushes a handful across the line.

  1. Set up

Choose 3 to 20 tokens each. Both sides start equal.

  2. Roll and send

Take turns. Send as many tokens as you roll over to the other side.

  3. Empty your side

Rolled more than you have left? Send them all.

How you win: The first player with an empty side wins.

Illustration: the two Roll Race cards leaning toward each other, yellow X marks on one and red on the other, with a red die.
Roll Race on a phone: two cards with rows 1 to 6 filling up with yellow and red X marks.

Roll. Mark. Race.

Roll Race

Two cards side by side, six rows each. No choices to agonize over: just the die, your card, and a rival filling theirs one mark faster or slower than you.

  1. Two marks per number

Your card has rows 1 to 6, with two empty cells in each.

  2. Roll and mark

Roll a number and an X goes into that row.

  3. Row full? Turn lost

Nothing happens and your turn passes.

How you win: The first player to fill all 12 cells wins.

Illustration: the Six Spots board with its big X and numbered spots, red and yellow tokens dropping onto it, and a red die.
Six Spots on a phone: a board divided by a big X with tokens covering numbered spots.

Match your roll

Six Spots

One board cut into four triangles by a big X. Your triangle holds six numbered spots, and the die decides which one you get to cover next.

  1. Six spots, six tokens

Your triangle holds the numbers 1 to 6.

  2. Roll and cover

Roll the number of an empty spot and a token drops onto it.

  3. Already covered? Turn lost

Nothing happens and your turn passes.

How you win: The first player to cover all six spots wins.

Illustration: two ice-cream cones with tall stacks of pastel scoops, a cherry on one of them, and a red die.
Scoop Stack on a phone: two cones with numbered scoops stacking up.

Grow your total

Scoop Stack

Two cones, and a scoop for every roll. Each scoop carries your running total, so you watch the lead change hands all the way up the stack.

  1. Two cones, eight scoops

Each of you fills a cone from the bottom up.

  2. Roll and add

Your roll is added to your total, and the new total lands on your next scoop.

  3. Eight rolls each

You each get exactly eight rolls, then the totals are compared.

How you win: The higher total wins. Level? Take one Cherry Roll each, and the higher roll wins. Same roll again? Keep rolling until one is higher. Cherry Rolls add no scoops.

Online, the player who sets up the match can change two rules: DiceBack can use Exact or skip (a roll bigger than your tokens left skips your turn), and Scoop Stack can use 3 to 12 scoops each.

Ways to play

Four ways to start a match

Practice against the computer, hand the phone to the person next to you, get matched online, or open a private room. Same rules every time, completely different pressure.

Vs computer

Play the computer to learn a new game, or for one more roll before bed.

No account needed

Two on one phone

Sit across from a friend and take turns on the same screen. Nothing to set up, nothing to join.

No account needed

Online quick match

One tap finds you an opponent. If nobody is around, a computer player takes the seat.

Free account needed

Private room

Create a room, send a friend its six-character code, and play each other from anywhere.

Free account needed

Playing the computer and playing two on one phone work without an account or a connection. Online quick match and private rooms need a connection and a free account, made with an email address or Google sign-in. Some modes have a small coin entry fee, shown before you start, and the winner gets coins. Two players sharing one phone never pay an entry fee. Quick matches move your league rating. Private rooms are friendly: no rating change.

Reasons to open it tomorrow

A match is quick. Everything around it is built so the next one is worth coming back for.

Dress your dice in every game, your tokens in DiceBack and Six Spots, and your box marks in Grid War. Starter styles come free, and more wait in the Store once you sign in.

Daily reward

Sign in and a coin reward waits every day you come back. Keep the streak going and it grows through the week. An optional video can add a little extra.

Leagues and leaderboards

Online matches earn you a rating in each game, so you can climb from Bronze to Diamond. See who won most this week, or who holds the top rating of all time, one tap from Home.

Achievements and profile

Collect badges for firsts, win streaks and trying every game, with fresh weekly and weekend goals. Your profile keeps your level, your stats and the avatar you pick.

Boosters

Lucky Roll gives you a better chance at your best numbers. Double Dice rolls two dice and keeps the better one. In Grid War, Undo takes back a line. You get a few per match, and both players see when one is used.

Fair play

The same rules on both sides of the table. Every roll is shown to both players, and when someone uses a booster, both of you see it. Online, the game server makes every roll. No match is ever played for real money.

Quick matches

Short enough for a bus ride, close enough to ask for a rematch. One tap and the next round starts.

Plays offline

No signal? Play the computer or pass the phone to a friend. Neither needs an account.

Optional reminders

Turn on an occasional nudge to come back for a match, if you like. Reminders stay quiet from 9 PM to 9 AM, and you can switch them off any time in Settings.

Questions

Straight answers about Dice Duo

Short answers to the things players ask us first.

Where can I get it?

Dice Duo is free on Google Play for Android phones. It contains ads and optional in-app purchases. Get it on Google Play.

Is there an iPhone or iPad version?

No. Dice Duo is for Android only, on Google Play.

Is Dice Duo free?

Yes. Dice Duo is free to download on Google Play, and you can play without paying. It shows banner ads and occasional ads between games, and offers optional in-app purchases. Coins are virtual: you win them in matches and get them from the daily reward and from reward videos you choose to watch. Some modes have a small coin entry fee, always shown before the match starts, and the winner gets coins. Two players on one phone never pay an entry fee. Coins also buy skins and boosters. Optional coin packs and bundles are sold through Google Play, at the price Google Play shows. Where it is offered, a one-time Remove Ads purchase turns off banners and between-game ads. Coins and items have no cash value. Our Terms of Service and our Refunds and Cancellations page explain how purchases work.

Can I play with a friend on one phone?

Yes, in all five games. Choose two players, sit across from each other and take turns on the same screen. No second phone, no account and no connection.

Can I play a friend who is somewhere else?

Yes. Create a private room, send your friend its six-character code, and you are in the same match. You both need a free account and a connection. Room matches are friendly, so your league rating does not change.

Do I need an account?

Not to start. Tap Continue as guest to play the computer or a friend on one phone, earn coins and collect badges, all saved on this phone. Sign in with a free account, made with an email address or Google, for online matches and private rooms, the daily reward, leagues and leaderboard ranks, and to buy skins or anything sold through Google Play.

Is anything played for real money?

No. Dice Duo is a set of dice board games played for fun. Coins are game pieces with no cash value, whether you earn them or buy them: they cannot be withdrawn, sold or exchanged for money, and there are no cash prizes.

Who is it for?

Players aged 13 and over. The rules are simple enough to learn in one round, but the app has online play and ads, so it is not made for younger children. Google Play shows a "Rated for 3+" label: that is a content rating, not the age Dice Duo is made for.

Are the rolls fair?

Every plain roll is one fair six-sided die, and both players see every result. Boosters change a roll in the open: Lucky Roll gives you a better chance at your best numbers, and Double Dice rolls two dice and keeps the better one. When one is used, both players see it. In online matches every roll is made by the game server, never by a phone.

How do I get help with my account or a purchase?

Email support@bouncycomet.com and tell us what happened. If you have an account, write from the email address on it. In the Store, Restore purchases brings back anything Google Play has confirmed. To delete your account and its data, see Delete Dice Duo account.
